Understanding the Long-Term Multigenerational Impacts of In-Utero Heat Stress
Jimena LaPorta, University of Wisconsin

Fetal programming refers to the concept that the environment in which a fetus develops plays a crucial role in determining its health and productivity in the future. In the dairy industry, heat stress is a major concern, especially during the late stages of gestation. This kind of stress can have significant and lasting effects on the survival, health, and productivity of the offspring, even extending to the granddaughters of the affected cows. This presentation will summarize the phenotypic and molecular impact of heat stress during pregnancy on future generations of dairy cattle, and our attempt to quantify its economic impact on the industry.

Next Generation Forage Management Strategies and Practices
Dr. John Goeser, Rock River Laboratory/Cows Agree Consulting

Agronomic practices have a significant impact on the quality of forage and its hygiene, which in turn affects the health and performance of dairy cattle. In this seminar, John Goeser will explore the intersection of Agronomy, Nutritional, and Veterinary sciences with forage. Dairies of the future must continue to seek and adapt innovative practices and technologies that optimize forage energy yield per acre per dollar, forage hygiene, and even improve sustainability. This session aims to enhance our understanding of how these three areas of science interact and discuss what leading dairies can do to advance. John will also discuss how to redefine benchmarking progress.

1:50 PM

NY State Climate Smart Ag: A Panel Discussion
Karl Czymmek, Cornell CALS PRO-DAIRY; Dr. Mike Van Amburgh, Cornell University; Greg Albrecht, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets; Meghan Hauser, Table Rock Farm
Moderated by Dr. Kristan Reed, Cornell University

Dairy cattle nutrition is a driving factor in whole farm production efficiency and the subsequent environmental footprints of dairy farms. In this panel, we will discuss diet and feeding management practices that can improve efficiency and reduce environmental footprints, NYS programs available to support implementation of these practices, and challenges and benefits of implementing them in practice.
