Anaerobic digestion is not a new process and many successful systems operate worldwide. However, opportunities exist to maximize outputs of existing systems and include management-based goals into new ones. The current industry movement towards receiving and converting food wastes and other materials co-digested with the main digester feed stream will also be included. More and better-managed digesters will help government, the general public, and the private sector achieve renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
This two full day short course provides participants with clarity about the underpinning operative microbiological populations and interactions that result in the desired product: Biomethane. Starting with the basics of anaerobic digestion microbiology, the course moves on to cover challenges and opportunities associated with maximizing microbiological degradation of varied sources of organic matter. Participants will learn not only what needs monitoring, but why. Important system design considerations that affect microbiological performance are included, and a light-hearted evening dinner session includes an open mic contest for participants to share digester stories, lessons learned, and ask questions. A unique prize will be awarded by audience vote for the declared best story.
Widely recognized national leaders and experts in the anaerobic digestion field will lead the course providing the broad cross-section of professional participants an understanding of the anaerobic digestion process and practical applications to achieve enhanced design and operation. Attendees will develop new relationships with counter-parts in the industry through scheduled networking breaks and an opening evening meet and greet time. Professional development hours (PDH) will be offered.
Current anaerobic digester system owners, operators, and managers, and those considering installation of system for farm, food processing or municipal facilities, including those contemplating co-digestion of food waste or other off-site feedstock sources, project developers, digester system service providers, designers/engineers, extension specialists, renewable natural gas (RNG) developers, regulators, and governmental officials.
